Thank you for your interest in MenkeCraft.
Currently MenkeCraft is a demo site and I am not selling anything. Please do not be discouraged, I hope to sell things in the future as I have no room to keep everything I make. This website is just a sample of what I have created. I welcome inquiries and comments.
My profession is software architecture and engineering.
Please see my software section for more information about that.
Regarding carpentry; I started building things when I was about eight with salvaged wood scraps from the houses being constructed in my neighborhood. Later repairing things for my parents, and eventually I used these skills to renovate two houses and create a variety of furniture and built-ins.
I prefer Mission, Shaker, Rustic, Adirondack, and Pueblo Revival styles.
- Designers that I have studied that inspire me:
- Leopold and Gustav Stickly
- Harvey Ellis
- Roycroft
- Greene and Greene
- Frank Lloyd Wright
- Raymond Loewy
- Mary Colter
- Gilbert Underwood
- Frederick Olmsted
- George Nakashima
Further inspiration comes from the creators of the great Adirondack camps.
When I am not creating software solutions I am in my workshop designing and building carpentry solutions. Identifying and understanding a need or a problem, designing, creating, and building a solution, project management, estimating time and materials; software development and carpentry are similar in this respect.
